Iranian state media has flatly rejected President Donald Trump's announcement that Iran had agreed to surrender and destroy its stockpile of highly enriched uranium as part of a peace deal.
According to Iranian state media, well-informed sources stated that Trump's claim about uranium destruction "not only does not appear in the memorandum of understanding, but this claim is fundamentally baseless."
Iran also pushed back on Trump's assertion that Tehran had agreed to open the Strait of Hormuz without tolls, saying that "no such clause appears in the text of the agreement."
Iran's Foreign Minister further indicated that reaching a final agreement depended on the United States ending what Tehran described as "excessive demands" at the negotiating table.
The two sides are presenting sharply contradictory accounts of what the proposed agreement actually contains, raising serious questions about how close a final deal truly is. This is a rapidly developing story. Stay tuned for further updates.
