| President Donald Trump has announced that the U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will be lifted, signaling a potential breakthrough in ongoing negotiations with Iran. |
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
"Ships caught in the Strait due to our amazing and unprecedented Naval Blockade, which will now be lifted, may start the process of 'heading home!'" Trump added that he was meeting with aides in the Situation Room to make a "final determination" on a deal with Iran.
Key conditions outlined by the president include Iran agreeing to never develop a nuclear weapon and allowing unrestricted shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz with no tolls.
The proposed agreement reportedly also involves Iran cooperating with the U.S. to destroy approximately 900 pounds of highly-enriched uranium from damaged nuclear facilities.
NOTE: It remains unclear whether the lifting of the blockade is conditional on a final signed agreement with Iran or whether it is effective immediately.
BACKGROUND: The U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports was imposed on April 13, 2026, following the collapse of the Islamabad Talks. As of today, CENTCOM confirmed that 115 commercial vessels had been redirected under the blockade. This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
